In 1980 it was believed that everything in the universe is made out of very small loops of matter. Much smaller than anything you can see in matter, simply its not philosphy or wishful thinking.
The defintion of science from Feynman means one of three things or a mixture he states it can also be a special method of finding things out. As in using technology there can be ways of finding out percentages and other valiable information. He also refers to science as its own application the fact that as a consequence of science it has a power to do things on its own.
